Plan the cleaning around the handoff

Move-in and move-out cleaning often has a firm deadline: a lease inspection, key return, listing appointment, closing, or arrival of new occupants. Build cleaning into the moving schedule rather than leaving it for the final hour.

When possible, schedule after furniture and boxes are removed but before access ends. An empty property allows cleaners to reach floors, corners, cabinets, and areas that may be blocked during the move.

Share the property details before scheduling

A useful estimate starts with accurate information. Include:

• Property city and approximate location
• Approximate square footage
• Number of bedrooms and bathrooms
• Whether the property is occupied or empty
• Current condition and areas of concern
• Preferred date and hard deadline
• Parking and entry instructions
• Requested add-ons or special priorities

Show the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, inside cabinets when relevant, and any area with buildup or damage. “Move-out cleaning” can mean very different things depending on the property condition.

Confirm exactly what is included

Ask whether the agreed service includes the areas that matter for the handoff, such as cabinet interiors, closets, appliance interiors, or interior windows. Do not rely on a generic checklist when a landlord, buyer, property manager, or host has specific requirements.

Inside-refrigerator, inside-oven, and interior-window cleaning can be requested as add-ons. Mention them before the quote is confirmed so the required time and price are included.

Prepare the property for efficient access

• Remove furniture, boxes, trash, and personal belongings when possible.
• Empty any cabinet, closet, refrigerator, or storage area included in the scope.
• Secure valuables, documents, medications, and fragile items.
• Keep water and electricity available.
• Provide working entry, gate, lockbox, and parking instructions.
• Identify surfaces or fixtures that require special care.
• Keep pets safely secured away from the work area.

Finish painting, repairs, and moving work first when possible. Dust and debris from later work can undo completed cleaning.

Use a room-by-room final check

Kitchen

Review counters, sink and faucet areas, cabinet fronts, floors, and appliance exteriors. Verify appliance and cabinet interiors separately when included.

Bathrooms

Review sinks, mirrors, toilets, tubs or showers, fixtures, floors, and visible buildup. Confirm that personal items and trash are removed.

Bedrooms and common areas

Check accessible surfaces, floors, corners, included closets, and debris that may have been hidden by furniture.

Entry and final access

Remove remaining trash, secure doors and windows as required, and follow the agreed key or lockbox instructions.

Leave time for the unexpected

Heavy buildup, pet hair, limited parking, difficult access, and last-minute moving debris can change the work required. Accurate photos and a clear deadline reduce surprises. Properties larger than 2,500 square feet should receive a custom quote.
